HELLO
Last week I showed the beginnings of my redesign of Doggozord. This week I took what I settled on in that process and did some drawovers in the storyboard to see if I liked how it worked in practice, rather than jumping straight to a model sheet.

Some thoughts:
I made a note that the joints work like accordions, but when they bend at a sharp angle the roundness of that kind of joint weakens the silhouette. I’ll still use a hard right angle for the knees and elbows when bent far.
The hands no longer transform into a combined cannon, instead just charge up in the paw pads. Not a big loss in my opinion.
The rounder edges of this version make it easier to draw, and while certain angles are still hard to nail in 2D, I think I can safely decide to keep this guy traditionally animated instead of in 3D like they do for Voltron.
I also got to screen my animatic for a few colleagues who had some great encouragement and feedback for me! Thanks again to those of you who participated. I feel really confident in this project and I’m excited to keep moving forward.
So here’s a current look at where I’m at overall:
I’ve done enough drawovers that I feel like the new design works well enough, I’ll pivot back to a model sheet and then finish revising the Doggozord scenes in the animatic for animation
After that is ready, I can do a test animation with one of the shots of Doggozord
I don’t need to learn Blender anymore but I might do a short online course on 2D animation to brush up on my very rusty skills
BG Design is off to a slow start as we establish style with the first image
I’ve spoken to a friend in voice acting to take the role of Biscuit! Still looking into the rest of the cast.
After that the roadmap becomes a vague blur and I am too scared to open the schedule Andrea made for me and look that far ahead.
The Stand With Animation Rally was a big success yesterday! The turnout was HUGE and it was so heartwarming not only to be surrounded by so many of my colleagues but also see support coming from other entertainment unions and celebrities in our field like Guillermo Del Toro and James Baxter!
Also it was MY BIRTHDAY. I got to see so many friends before, during, and after the rally. And I got a fancy new mechanical keyboard!
It sounds so cool, very marbley. The keys light up from the RGB backlight when pressed. I can’t wait to order custom keycaps.
bye!
